Couples' /Relationship Counselling
F.A.Q Couples' Counselling
Frequently Asked Questions for Couples' Counselling/Relationship/Marriage/Separation Counselling
What is an initial consultation or preliminary session?
The couples consultation is a 60-minute meeting with a professional counsellor to discuss your current situation and reasons for seeking help. Your partner, you and your counsellor will then decide if the therapy we offer will be suitable for you both.
How much is an initial couples' consultation and will we have to wait?
You both will be invited to begin ongoing therapy within 3 days. The cost will be agreed with your counsellor at the initial session and range between £45 and £60 (Concession rates available) please discuss this with your counsellor at the time of your consultation.
How long is a session?
The couples session last for 60 minutes unless agreed otherwise.
How can we pay for our sessions?
Cash, Cheque or invoice are all accepted.
Do we see the same counsellor every week?
Yes, ongoing counselling will always be with the same counsellor.
Do we see this counsellor at the same time every week?
This is a matter for you and your counsellor to agree. At exploring U counselling we understand the need for flexibility and empathy.
How many times a week do we see our counsellor?
The standard approach is once a week but there may be times when more or less is required. Again this is a private matter for you both to discuss with your counsellor.
How many sessions will we need?
This decision is for you the clients, and your counsellor to discuss. We encourage our clients to attend a minimum of six sessions to gain real benefit from your therapeutic process, but at times fewer sessions, focused on a specific issue can be helpful. When you both consider ending your couples' therapy, we will offer you a closing session to end the work.
What happens if we stop the process but want to restart?
This is not a problem. Call or e-mail exploring U counselling and your counsellor will get in touch with you. You can then arrange a meeting to decide how to proceed.
What happens if we cannot make our appointment?
We encourage regular attendance but we also understand the commercial and social pressures that our clients may be under. However 24-hour notice is required in order not to incur the full cost of the session. A telephone call, e-mail or letter will be enough to cancel an appointment.
How do we know that the service is confidential?
exploring U counselling is an entirely independent and privately operated organisation. Our therapists are full members of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy for good practice, all of which abide by the guidelines for confidentiality.
Can you help couples with sexual difficulties?
Yes, we work with the whole spectrum of sexual difficulties like loss of desire, sexual incompatibility, and arousal disorder etc.
Do we always have to attend couple counselling together?
Although we recommend couples to work together on a couple issue, we also understand that there are times when partners may benefit more from individual counselling, therefore we will offer each individual in the couple relationship individual therapy.
