Eating Disorder Awareness Week 2018

Eating Disorder Awareness Week for 2018 is taking place from the 26th of February to the 4th of March.

Eating Disorder Awareness Week takes place internationally to help raise awareness and fight the myths that surround eating disorders. The theme for this years awareness week is ‘Why Wait?’

Eating Disorder Charity Beat say; ‘On average, 149 weeks pass before those experiencing eating disorder symptoms seek help. That’s almost three years, 37 months or 1,043 days.’ This is a long time to wait to receive the help and support sufferers need. The sooner someone receives treatment the quicker they can make a full recovery.

The awareness week doesn’t just campaign to improve the services available, it also helps to raise awareness of the symptoms of an eating disorder and to seek help.

Eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia and binge-eating disorder are very serious mental health illnesses. Eating Disorder charity Beat believes approximately 1.25 million people in the UK have an eating disorder.

If you want to get involved this Eating Disorder Awareness Week then visit Beat.

If you or someone you know is struggling with an eating disorder exploringU Counselling has counsellors available to support you through your recovery.
